marvel

since i learned the term retcon, or retroactive continuity, i've been enamored by the concept. it is something i've always known of but never thought to define--like the ridge between ones nose and upper lip, the philtrum. retcon is more or less defined as the altering of past events to accommodate a current situation. although it is traditionally applied to serial worlds such as those in comic books, allow me this.

yesterday, i moved all of my stuff into my new school room. around 3 am, i found myself playing super mario bros via gameboy and riding my bike in small circles in the common room (often failing to loop. the fresh paint behind the door is scuffed. whoops.) i had uninhibited fun doing some of the silly things i did in the days when it was perfectly acceptable to watch an hour of pinky and the brain, jump rope around the block, play 3 levels of mega man, and then consider it a productive day. but so is nostalgia.

those were the days when i'd lay under the piano eating carrot's and cuc's and wait for the distinct sound of the back door being pushed open, dad's shoes on the wood, his bag hitting the floor, dinner scent in the air and warm light everywhere. this is a call for retcon in this serial world: take me back.
